Description
DescriptionThis is a microwave occupancy sensor with daylight sensing built in, rated IP65 and supplied with its own junction box. The body is a compact round white moulding with a metal fixing bracket and a pre-wired flying lead, so the connections are made in the box rather than inside the sensor. Microwave detection works differently from the more familiar heat based type: it sends out a low power radar signal and reads the changes in what returns, which makes it quick to respond to small movements and to movement across its field as well as towards it.
The daylight side of the job is what keeps it from wasting energy. A daylight sensor reads the ambient light level and holds the lighting off while there is already enough of it, so the circuit only switches when the room has genuinely gone dark. That pairing suits corridors, stairwells, storerooms, garages and utility spaces where people arrive with their hands full and nobody wants a switch. The IP65 rating means the housing is dust tight and stands up to water jets from any direction, and the manufacturer states it is suitable for use in bathroom zones 1 and 2, though not zone 0.
The junction box comes with the sensor, which saves sourcing a separate enclosure for the connections. The manufacturer states the unit is not dimmable, so treat it as a switching control that turns a circuit on and off rather than trimming the level. Maximum switching load is not stated here, so confirm it against the lighting it will drive before committing to a large group of LED drivers. It is sold as a single sensor, with a minimum order of one.

Frequently AskedHow does a microwave sensor detect movement?
It sends out a low power radar signal and reads the reflections, so it responds to movement itself rather than to body heat, including small movements made across its field.
Can I fit it in a bathroom?
Yes. The manufacturer states it is suitable for zones 1 and 2, but not zone 0, which is the inside of the bath or shower tray itself.
What does the daylight sensor add?
It reads the ambient light level and holds the lighting off while daylight is sufficient, so the circuit only runs once the space has actually gone dark.
Will it dim the lights it controls?
No. The manufacturer states the unit is not dimmable, so it switches the circuit on and off rather than raising or lowering the output of the fittings.
How is it wired in?
A pre-wired lead leaves the body and the supplied junction box takes the connections. Maximum switching load is not stated by the manufacturer, so check it against the lighting it will control.
