Description
The Plastic Socket Cable Switch Lampholder is the part a lamp screws into, made up on the flex of a pendant or wired into a lamp. A dark grey moulded lampholder with a threaded skirt and a broad shade ring, topped by a short plain cord entry. A fine cord runs out of a small eyelet in the side of the body and ends in a turned toggle of the same grey, so the light is worked at the fitting itself. The threaded skirt takes a shade ring, and the moulding carries the usual shallow ribs round its shoulder. The finish is a fine-grained matt grey, dark enough to read as black at a distance. There is nothing decorative on it.
It is the part everything else is built around: a shade goes over it, a flex runs into it, and the lamp you choose sets how the light reads. It is a part rather than a finished fitting, so it is bought alongside whatever it is going to carry or connect to rather than on its own. That is the point of buying the pieces separately: the shade, the flex and the holder are each chosen on their own, and a run can be made up to a length and a drop that no finished pendant would give you. There is a cord switch, so it is reached at the fitting rather than by following the flex down.
The holder is E27 and takes up to 13W. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.
