DescriptionA low anthracite post topped with a clear round diffuser, this one gives a soft ring of light at knee and shin height rather than a narrow downward beam. The body stands 65cm tall, slim enough to sit beside a path without getting in the way, and the head is a neat cylinder of 12cm. Because the diffuser is clear, the lamp inside stays visible and the glow spreads sideways as well as down, which is what makes it useful for marking edges and levels after dark.
We reach for posts like this along a front path, either side of a drive entrance, or set into planting where a taller lantern would look heavy. It suits a garden that needs orientation more than brightness, and it works well repeated at intervals so the light reads as a rhythm rather than a single pool. It is rated for open outdoor positions, so rain and wind are no obstacle. It takes an E27 lamp and we would choose a warm white GLS in LED form; dimming is possible where both the lamp and the dimmer are suited to it.
The finish is anthracite, a deep grey that sits quietly against brick, render and greenery and hides the marks a garden throws at it. The clear diffuser is the only bright part of the piece. To keep it looking right, wipe the post down when you clean the windows and give the diffuser a rinse to shift dust and pollen before drying it off. It carries a two year warranty.
